Follow these proper sun care habits and protect your skin every day

Of the different types of solar radiation that reach the Earth, ultraviolet rays UVA and UVB are responsible for skin carcinomas and photoageing. Intense exposure to the sun at the beach, pool or on the slopes isn’t the only thing responsible for the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation. Chronic exposure to the sun over a lifetime, while walking, working or doing outdoor sports, causes many of these lesions.

Proper sun care is the best weapon of prevention against damage caused by exposure to ultraviolet rays, helping reduce the chances of developing skin cancer. Follow good sun care habits and protect your skin every day.

Limit the amount of time you spend in the sun and avoid exposure between 12 noon and 4 pm, when the radiation is most direct and intense.

Apply sun care product generously half an hour before going out in the sun on clean, dry skin. Repeat every two hours.

Don’t forget ears, hands and feet. Or sensitive areas like nose, lips and insteps.

Use a product with high UVA protection, like Glo Therapeutics Solar Shade SPF 50 for sensitive skin or their tinted moisturizers SPF 40, to avoid spots.

The right clothes: hat, t-shirt and sunglasses with 100% UV and visible blue protection.

As their skin is much more delicate, use sun care created specifically for them with high SPF.

The sun rises every day, which is why proper sun care is important all year round, especially when doing outdoor activities.  Even though you don’t feel hot, the clouds only block 10% of UVA rays, so most still reach your skin.  In Colorado, we are much closer to the sun, so we are at a higher risk. Colorado is also incredibly dry. Layer on a tinted sun care moisturizer, like Glo Therapeutics Tinted Moisturizer SPF 40.

It’s also important to moisturize after being out in the sun. Calming your skin with aloe if you did get burned is also important.  Besides a daily sun protection, checking your skin and also your friends and family´s is very important for the prevention of skin cancer.

When it comes to anti-aging and sun care, they go hand in hand. Every dermatologist will tell you that sun care is the number one anti-aging warrior. Many people think that because it is in your makeup or moisturizer, it is enough. It isn’t. Incorporating a sun care product on top of your daily moisturizer is imperative, especially in this high dry climate. Doubling up on your sunscreen will protect your skin and help seal in your moisturizer. There are so many formulations now on the market from physical to chemical sun care. It is up to you to decide which formulation is best for you. Physical sunscreens, which work by sitting on top of the skin to deflect and scatter damaging UV rays away from the skin. They are often referred to as physical sun care blockers. Chemical sun care is defined as creating a chemical reaction and working by changing UV rays into heat, then releasing that heat from the skin. They are often referred to as chemical or organic sun care absorbers.
